 Oquaga Lake

SIze: 135 Acres

The glacier formed lake is at an elevation of 1,600 ft above sea-level. It is situated on a hill-top and has no influx of rivers or creeks. The lake is fed by several springs on the bottom of the lake.

Water quality is highest in NY State tested yearly: AA rating approved source for potable water.

The lake is 110ft deep with an average depth of over 40ft.

There are about 70 mostly luxury vacation homes, connected to a sewer system with it’s own sewage treatment plant downstream of the lake, preventing laundry phosphates and nitrates from entering the lake and causing algae blooms on so many other lakes.

The lake has no public access. This results in a year-round quiet lake and allows for water ski-ing.

Personal watercraft (jet-ski's) are not allowed by local law.

There is an Oquaga Lake Improvement Association for homeowners ($100/year). Run by volunteers.

Chestnut Inn, part of the Settler’s Hospitality Group, is a luxury restaurant, bar and hotel situated on the west shore of the lake allowing people on the lake to go for dinner by boat.

The lake is 157 miles from Washington Bridge in New York City. An easy drive since only the last 2 miles are not 4 lane roads. Oquaga Lake is just 2 miles uphill from I-86/NY-17.

The lake front of 48 Hanson Road is formed by a point shaped rock beach with 4 cantilevered docks. One of which accesses deep enough water to allow diving from a diving board. There are 2 inland harbors, one for the 21’ Duffy Cruiser and one with a boat ramp and sandy shallow beach for small kids.
